Pre-enrolment procedure
The student who wishes to apply for admission to a Doctoral Program, should make the application to the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program.
For each academic year, the UIMP will approve the offer of Doctoral Programs as well as the number of places available for each one of them according to what is indicated in the corresponding Study Plan.
The calendar to apply for a place is made public, in due time, on the UIMP website (Academic and Administrative Calendar) and on the website of the Collaborating Center.
Applicants must document that they are eligible to access Doctoral Studies at the time of submitting their application for admission.
Documents required
Those students seeking admission to a Doctoral Program will be required to hand in at the UIMP Student Administration Office (Secretaría de Estudiantes, C/Isaac Peral, 23. 28040 Madrid - Spain) the following documentation:
- Application Form for admission for Doctoral Studies (Forms). The applicant must indicate the Doctoral Program he or she wishes to pursue and the line or lines of research of interest. If this is the case, the applicant must also indicate if he/she is applying for the part-time study modality.
- Proposal for the Assignment of Thesis Supervisor (Forms).
- Authenticated photocopy of National ID card, in the case of Spanish students, or of passport or identity document, in the case of foreign students.
- Authenticated photocopy of the Qualification Certificate/s which provides access to Doctoral Studies, or proof of having paid for the issuance of the certificate/s concerned.
- Transcript of Personal Academic Records, or authenticated copy thereof, concerning Official Studies undertaken.
- In the case of a Qualification from a foreign university, an authenticated copy of the homologation credentials concerned.
- Students with Degree Qualification Certificates issued in accordance with education systems outside the EHEA must also submit a Certification issued by the University of origin where in it is set down that the Higher Education Qualification obtained provides access to Doctoral studies in the issuing country.
- Candidats in official training for specialties in Health Sciences will present a certificate issued by the direction of the hospital attesting to the positive evaluation of at least 2 years of training.
- Authenticated copy of having been granted the Aptitude for Research Qualification (for students belonging to Plan '85) or the Diploma in Advanced Studies, DEA, (for students belonging to Plan '98).
- Some studies require additional documentation, so it is recommended to consult the the Doctoral Program website on which you will pre-enrolment. On the specific web-pages of each Doctoral Program, information is available regarding the documentation to be included as part of the application process
Students who completed studies granting access to the Doctoral Program at the UIMP will not need to provide this documentation unless expressly required to do so by the Student Administration Office.
Legalisation and translation of documents issued in other countries
Students with non-homologated Higher Education Qualification Certificates from universities outside Spain, or which are currently pending homologation, are required to submit duly authenticated documents, together with their corresponding translations into Spanish, should the circumstances arise.

Resolution of the Application for Admission
The Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program will decide on the application for admission in accordance with the conditions set out in the Study Plan and UIMP regulations.
The Vice-Rectorate of Postgraduate and Research will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the admission process.

Admission Lists and designation of Tutor and Thesis Supervisor
The lists of those admitted, those refused a place, and those still pending, will be published on the UIMP website, via the link Admission Lists, in accordance with the calendar established for each academic year.
In the admission lists, admitted students will be able to consult the information relating to the Tutor and Thesis Supervisor assigned and, where appropriate, the training supplements they may have to take.
Once a place has been granted, the applicant's right to make use of it ends with the closing of the enrolment period established on the admission list. If the applicant does not enrol during this period, it will be understood that he or she has forfeited the place granted.

Enrolment procedure
The student must formalize the enrolment at the Student Administration Office within the deadlines established by the UIMP for each academic year and that will be published in due time (Academic and Administrative Calendar).
Enrolment entitles the student to academic supervision and all the rights of researchers in training at the UIMP.
Enrolment for academic supervision must be renewed every academic year (via payment of the fees concerned), from the year of admission to the doctoral program until the defense of the Doctoral Thesis. If fee payments are not made on time, the student will be dropped from the Doctoral Program.
Documents required
- Documentary Commitment and Best Practices for Doctoral Studies signed (Forms).
- All students who are studying an official Master's or Doctoral Program at the UIMP and who are not covered by School Insurance or registered with Social Security must take out an accident insurance policy. At the time of enrolment, they must present proof of having taken out the aforementioned policy. In case the student is registered in the Social Security, he/she must provide a photocopy of the Health Card in his/her name.
School insurance
School Insurance must be paid by all Spanish or foreign students under 28 years of age legally residing in Spain.
All students who are studying an official Master's or Doctoral program at the UIMP and who are not covered by the School Insurance or registered with the Social Security must take out an accident insurance policy. At the time of enrolment, students must present proof of having taken out the aforementioned policy. In case the student is registered in the Social Security, he/she must provide a photocopy of the Health Card in his/her name.

Part-time students
The enrollment in a Doctoral Program may be carried out with part-time dedication, with prior authorization from the Academic Committee of the Program.
The admission criteria will be the same for full-time or part-time students and will follow the provisions of the corresponding Study Plan.
Any student admitted may change the modality under which he or she is studying the Doctoral Program by sending a reasoned request for change to the Academic Committee, which will be competent to accept or reject it.

Enrolment fees
Official Postgraduate Studies, with validity throughout national territory, taught in State universities are subject to the current fees system in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law 6/2001, dated 21 December, on Universities.

Fees Academic Year 2020/2021:
- Administrative fee: 30,80 €, at the first registration
- Office expenses: 6,24 €, per year
- School insurance (under 28 years old): 1,12 €, per year
- Tuition fee (full-time students): 216,70 €, per year
- Tuition fee (part-time students): 129,94 €, per year
Other charges:
- Thesis defense: 134,44 €
- Issuance of Doctoral Degree Certificate: 230,72 €
Fee Reductions and Exemptions
This benefit may be applied for by students who are in one of the following situations, to which end they will be obliged to provide the University with documents as proof of the condition which they claim to be the case, within the registration period.
Important: Documents justifying reductions and exemptions must be in effect at the time of registration.
Beneficiaries of general category large-family status (RD 1621/2005, dated December 30, 2005)
Exemption:
- 50% of the costs of academic services and administrative services, excluding student insurance.
- 50% of the costs of the Qualification Certificate concerned, as well of other academic certifications.
Documents to be submitted:
- Authenticated photocopy of large-family identity card and the renewal card in this regard and, were it the case, issued by the relevant organism belonging to the Spanish Public Administration.
Postgraduate Studies in which a reduction may be applied for:
- Masters' Degrees.
- Academic supervision during the research period of a Doctoral Program.
Beneficiaries of special category large-family status (RD 1621/2005, dated December 30, 2005)
- 100% of the costs of academic services and administrative services, excluding student insurance.
- 100% of the costs of the Qualification Certificate concerned, as well as of other academic certification.
Documents to be submitted:
- Authenticated photocopy of large-family identity card and the renewal card in this regard and, were it the case, issued by the relevant organism belonging to the Spanish Public Administration.
Postgraduate Studies in which a reduction may be applied for:
- Masters' Degrees.
- Academic supervision during the research period of a Doctoral Program.
Victims of Terrorism, as well as their spouses and offspring in accordance with the provisions of Article 7 of Law 32/1999, dated 8 October
- Fees corresponding to Academic Services.
- Does not include the cost of Administrative Services, nor, were it the case, of student insurance.
Documents to be submitted:
- Authenticated photocopy of the administrative order issued by the relevant organism belonging to the Spanish Public Administration via which the status of victim of terrorism has been acknowledged.
Postgraduate Studies in which a reduction may be applied for:
- Masters' Degrees.
- Academic supervision during the research period of a Doctoral Program.
Students with disabilities
Considering them to be those who have a degree of disability equal to, or greater than, 33%, as set down in the additional provision 24.6 of the Universities Act, as drafted in Law 4/2007, dated 12 April.
Exemption:
- 100% of the costs of academic services and administrative services, excluding student insurance.
- 100% of the costs of the Qualification Certificate concerned, as well as of other academic certification.
Documents to be submitted:
- Authenticated photocopy of the administrative order issued by the relevant organism belonging to the Spanish Public Administration via which the status of disabled person has been acknowledged.
Postgraduate Studies in which the reduction may be applied for:
- Masters' Degrees.
- Academic supervision during the research period of a Doctoral Program.
Reductions of Other Kinds:
Distinction in Master's Degree Studies
When the grade of 'With Distinction´ is achieved in subjects within UIMP Masters' Degrees, the following year a deduction will be made for the amount corresponding to the number of credits for which the grade was obtained.
Under no circumstances may the total amount of the deduction exceed the total cost of tuition. Likewise, this deduction will not be applicable to the fee for academic supervision upon enrolment in a Doctoral Program.
Civil Service Personnel and UIMP Staff
And in the case of their spouses and direct descendants, and always in the case of there being vacant places available.
Exemption:
- 50% in the first-year enrolment fees.
- 10% in the second-year fees, as well as in those for subsequent enrolments.
Postgraduate Studies in which the reduction may be applied for:
- Masters' Degrees.
- Academic supervision during the research period of a Doctoral Program.
Recipients of Grants and Study Bursaries
Students who, upon enrolment, avail themselves of the possibility of fee exemption, because they have applied for an official grant, and then at a later date do not acquire the status of grant holders, or whose allotted grant is revoked, will be required to pay the fee corresponding to the enrolment already formalized. Non-payment of the said fee will result in the cancellation of the enrolment.
Doctors with Doctoral Studies Extraordinary Award
In accordance with the Regulations for the grating of Doctoral Studies Extraordinary Awards at the Menéndez Pelayo International University approved by the Governing Body on August 15, 2017, all those doctors who have been awarded an extraordinary prize will be entitled to exemption from, or refund of, the fees for the award of the doctoral degree in the form and for the amounts approved by the Governing Body. If the student has the right to this exemption and pays the full public prices, the amount will be reimbursed upon request of refund of public prices.
