Margarita Alfaro Amieiro

Margarita Alfaro Amieiro holds a PhD in French Studies from the UCM (1989) and is a full tenured professor in French and Francophone Literature at the Autónoma University of Madrid, where she has worked since 1990.
Her research covers the area of French studies and her fields of specialisation are Francophone literature and intercultural Francophone literatures in Europe. She has been the principal investigator on R&D&i projects with a consolidated research field since 2003: ‘The Study of Transnational Literatures and Identities in Europe’ (ELITE) (HUM F-065). She has authored over one hundred national and international publications, and been the editor for collective volumes. She is a research member at INALCO (Sorbonne Paris Cité) and a member of the Board of the Casa de Velázquez. She was awarded the Chevalier dans les Palmes Académiques in 2017 by the French government, in recognition of her work in promoting French language and culture.
She has held different management posts at the UAM: deputy head (1997-2000) and head (2000-2003) of the Department of French Studies; deputy dean of lecturing staff in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (2003-2009); Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Cooperation and University Extension (1/12/2009-30/06/2017) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Relations, Social Responsibility and Culture (1/07/2017-30/06/2021).
